ABOUT U.S. STEEL
- U. S. Steel Serbia is engaged in manufacturing and selling of hot and cold rolled sheet products as well as tin mill products shaped as coils and sheets. Its operations are located in Smederevo, Sabac, and Kucevo.
WHY SERBIA?
- We experienced a major turnaround in our operations in recent years and emerged as a successful competitor in Serbia and the export steel market. Our steel production increased by more than 35 percent in 2005, with production of more than 1.5 million tons, most of which going to export markets.
SERBIA-EXPERIENCE
- Our Serbian workforce accomplished great things during the past years. The people, a well educated group of workers, have responded very effectively to our training in continuous improvement of such areas as workplace safety, product quality, customer service, environmental improvement, and cost reduction.
- The successful turnaround at U. S. Steel Serbia has helped enhance the activities of the company's Economic Development Center (EDC) in Belgrade. The company will spend $1.5 million on economic development activities over a three year period to promote foreign direct investment as a means of stimulating economic growth in Serbia.
FUTURE PLANS
- We plan to continue our EDC efforts to promote Serbia in both Europe and North America during the coming years.
