Serbian Pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010 Opens to Public
01. 05. 2010.
Serbia Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai was officially opened by the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic on May 1. This is the first time for Serbia to take part at the EXPO exhibition after exactly 110 years and, if judged by the attention drawn on the first day of the exhibition, this will be a real come back for Serbia. Colorful façade of the Pavilion, inspired by traditional Serbian carpet, was a real attention grabber generating long queues standing on an equal footing with those in front of the neighboring pavilions of Monaco, Spain and the European Union. The two minute coverage from the opening ceremony featuring speech given by the Minister made it to the headlines of many TV stations including the most influential business oriented TV station in Shanghai, international CCTV.
During six months of the exhibition Serbia will feature numerous events and performances to introduce its economy, tourism, and culture. The main events of the Serbia presentation will be concentrated around its National Day (27th of June) when the pavilion will host Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and organize an investment forum and many cultural events such as series of concerts by famous Serbian artist Slobodan Trkulja and his band Balkanopolis.
After eight years of preparation, China launched the biggest EXPO ever. The organizers of EXPO in Shanghai claim to have attracted more than 350,000 of visitors on the opening day of the show and expect to see as many as 70 million by the end of October. The night before the opening day, the organizer has set the sky on fire with a lavishing fireworks, play of light, real reminder of the fireworks from the opening of the Olympic Games in Bejing.
EXPO in Shanghai is of paramount importance to China and its international image. No doubt that the participation of Serbia at EXPO will further strengthen traditionally good relations between two countries and open the way for further business cooperation and investments.
